The Marriage
A comedy in two acts, by Nikolai Gogol Performed in Russian with English subtitles
Summer's coming in St Petersburg and blushing bride-to-be, Agafya, has a string of suitors lined up for her by the local matchmaker – but how can she decide which one to pick? Ivan wants to get married, but how long will he take to pop the question once he's made up his mind?
Ivan's best friend, Ilya, driven to distraction by all the dithering, vows to take charge and force his hand – wiping out the competition from the other suitors and making sure the day ends with wedding bells ringing. But will his cunning plan succeed?
Thanks to the genious of Gogol and an extremely gifted, hardworking cast & crew, this show was a great seccess. Goodge Street Theatre troupe clearly demonstrated it's potential and ability to work as a true team.
Our audiences and supporters were extremely generous with their overwhelmingly positive feedback. Everyone could feel almost palpable waves of positive energy that travelled betwen the auditorium and the performing space. This show has once again demonstrated that humor and laughter are best remedies against all evils.
